Importance of Technology in Business

Technology plays a vital role in business. Over the years businesses have become dependent on technology so much so that if we were to take away that technology virtually all business operations around the globe would come to a grinding halt. Almost all businesses and industries around the world are using computers ranging from the most basic to the most complex of operations.

Technology played a key role in the growth of commerce and trade around the world. It is true that we have been doing business since time immemorial, long before there were computers; starting from the simple concept of barter trade when the concept of a currency was not yet introduced but trade and commerce was still slow up until the point when the computer revolution changed everything. Almost all businesses are dependent on technology on all levels from research and development, production and all the way to delivery. Small to large scale enterprises depend on computers to help them with their business needs ranging from Point of Sales systems, information management systems capable of handling all kinds of information such as employee profile, client profile, accounting and tracking, automation systems for use in large scale production of commodities, package sorting, assembly lines, all the way to marketing and communications. It doesn't end there, all these commodities also need to be transported by sea, land, and air. Just to transport your commodities by land already requires the use of multiple systems to allow for fast, efficient and safe transportation of commodities.

Without this technology the idea of globalization wouldn't have become a reality. Now all enterprises have the potential to go international through the use of the internet. If your business has a website, that marketing tool will allow your business to reach clients across thousands of miles with just a click of a button. This would not be possible without the internet. Technology allowed businesses to grow and expand in ways never thought possible.

Importance of Technology in Business

The role that technology plays for the business sector cannot be taken for granted. If we were to take away that technology trade and commerce around the world will come to a standstill and the global economy would collapse. It is nearly impossible for one to conduct business without the aid of technology in one form or another. Almost every aspect of business is heavily influenced by technology. Technology has become very important that it has become a huge industry itself from computer hardware manufacturing, to software design and development, and robotics. Technology has become a billion dollar industry for a number of individuals.

The next time you browse a website to purchase or swipe a credit card to pay for something you just bought, try to imagine how that particular purchase would have happened if it were to take place without the aid of modern technology. That could prove to be a bit difficult to imagine. Without all the technology that we are enjoying now it would be like living in the 60's again. No computers, no cellular phones, no internet. That is how important technology is in business.

Purchasing A Business: Change The Persona

Many business owners purchase a business to bring in additional income, to allow them to be their own boss, to take control of their destiny, and to invest in their future. However, one big issue that many business owners don't realize is that when they purchase a business they are also purchasing the history of that business. If the purchased business has a history of violence, theft, bringing in the wrong type of customers, etc. then this will not change with just a purchase of the business. The business must be changed. Now, the products or services that the business offers to customers doesn't have to change (upgraded is always nice, though), but the name and look of the business does need to be changed.

Creating a new persona will change the image of the business. Creating a new, cool, hip name for the business, along with a new logo, will let existing and future customers know that an ownership change has taken place and that the way business is conducted will be different. Also, redesigning the interior will change the type of customers the business attracts.

Many times when a business is purchased the new owner doesn't want to sink a bunch of money into painting, changing out tables, chairs, counters, merchandising racks, etc., but this is necessary to create a new look for the business. If the business is in a rough neighborhood, then the owner may want to look into hiring security to ensure that no incidents take place inside or outside of the business.

Purchasing A Business: Change The Persona

Then there is the marketing and advertising of the business. However it was marketed and advertised under the old owner and name will definitely need to change. Bringing in the right type of customers will make the business thrive and will become a destination rather than just another business. The owner can either attempt to market the business through his or her own connections, social media marketing and advertising efforts, through mailers, etc. Or, if the owner is not comfortable with this, he or she can hire a professional to market and advertise the business in areas where it makes sense to draw the appropriate customers from.

For example, the gym I go to down the street from my house used to be under a different gym name, it used to look really scary to approach, and the inside was very disorganized and not somewhere I'd want to workout.

However, when the current owner purchased the business:

He changed the name of the gym He changed out all of the machinery He has an organized method for arranging all of the workout equipment He painted the location to be bright and inviting The gym name is on the monument sign There is a sign-up offer banner on the front of the attached business (with arrows pointing to the gym location) There is now security that goes around the parking lot since this is now a 24 hour gym He advertises discounts in the mailer the center sends out to the local community in the mail.

I have to say that I like it a lot more than the previous gym, the way it looks is more inviting, and there is a lot more advertising. He changed the image of the business, but he still offers the same thing the previous owner offered.

Have you experienced a transformation like this of a local business? What were the results?

Outsourcing - Pros And Cons

Stripped of its technical terms, outsourcing is basically the practice of one company to contract another company to provide the services that could have been performed by their own staff. There are many reasons why companies now are on the bandwagon of having some of their services done by others. (It had been an old practice, really.) These outsourced services passed on to other companies are usually call center services, e-mail services, and payroll. These particular jobs are part of the outsourcing trend practiced by many companies these days.

Reasons

One of the main reasons why companies are into outsourcing is diminished company resources, both in financial terms and in manpower costs. When a company expands (which can be sudden), the growth can start to eat up on the companies resources.

Outsourcing - Pros And Cons

Financially, the company might not be able to match the growth with the needed infusion of money to sustain the expansion. This holds true with their human resources as well.

With the growth, manpower might be sucked up with the new growth and diminish the company's productivity in its core areas. The service-providing companies can do the work for less costs (thus not over-stretching most of the company's resources), and has the manpower to do it.

Other Reasons

Efficiency sometimes suffers once there is a sudden expansion that cannot be absorbed by the company's present staff setup and other resources. If, for instance, there is a huge demand for huge number of their products, other departments might not be up to it.

The purchasing department might need so many men to do the buying of raw materials, for instance. Outsourcing the purchasing department is a good move and costs less.

Other reasons could be that overhead costs might be disastrous to the company's budget and current plans. Or, perhaps an offshoot to its growth is impossible to meet. If the company had grown to such an extent that it needs a bigger office, outsourcing the functions of the projected new additional staff is cheaper. (Transfer of the whole office to someplace bigger is definitely expensive in time, effort and money values.)

Companies are also bound to experience production demands that come and go in cycles within a year. Outsourcing additional resources during times of so much demand can ease up the company's problems.

The good part of the deal is that the contracted periods of having these extra jobs outsourced can follow the cyclical production demands. (A toy company's production department might need more manpower in the middle months of the year to produce the goods needed for, say, Christmas or some holidays.)

Cons

On the other hand, this new business model of parceling some important work aspects of a company to another had sparked a mini-controversy which had not been thoroughly resolved even until now. Definitely, there are those who are not fully convinced of the viability of such an arrangement.

The biggest argument against this deal is actually focused on the relationship of the company and its clients. In short, it may invite dissatisfaction from client side. Reasons could range from lower quality of work output, unnecessary dilution of company-client trade secrets, etc.

Control

Control is also put to the test. Some aspects of the company are in danger of spinning out of the company's control since the outsourced company conducts the decisions that would have been better handled by the parent company.

Some clients are not fully convinced that the outsourced company can function as efficiently as the original contracted company. If they do (most companies can, in practice), clients feel it might be better to deal with the new company rather than their old supplier or contracted business partner.

Riding on this threat is the mounting danger of delayed communications that causes delayed implementation. Without proper management and apportioning of responsibilities, there is tendency that confusion might set in.

Outsourcing had also allowed a political issue to float around - social responsibility. It is said that with more and more companies allocating jobs to foreign countries, the people of the parent company will have reduced opportunities. While this debate and questions are still up in the air, more and more companies are outsourcing some of their work. Offhand, companies and their managers think the current trend is the result of the current situation in commerce and trade all over the world. At the moment, outsourcing looks like it will stay for a while.

Using Affiliate Programs To Fund Your Network Marketing Business

Network Marketing businesses are more popular now than ever before. Thousands of people are quitting their jobs and taking that elusive leap of faith to start their own home based businesses. An excellent way to offset the operating expenses of your primary Online Marketing Venture is to start a quality affiliate program. There are a myriad of ways you can do this on the Internet alongside your traditional MLM business. Consider creating your own products, licensing products and providing online services just to name a few. The beauty of this concept remains, that most of those people are able to receive handsome commissions without even having ANY products of their own.

Here are a few tips to ensure smooth sailing.

Never sell anything you don't own, use and believe in wholeheartedly. This is the first rule for a good reason. DO NOT make the mistake of selling anything that you don't already own yourself. If you don't have firsthand experience with your affiliate product, you're just not in a position to provide good customer service or advice. Without personal first-hand knowledge - how can you honestly make any claims that are either pro or con?

Using Affiliate Programs To Fund Your Network Marketing Business

If you've followed me for any period of time, you know how often I sound off about the many internet leaches that exist online who are all too willing to lighten your checkbook in exchange for poor or bogus advice. Countless numbers of snake oil salesman are willing to over hype the "product of the week" without stopping to think or care that they just might be providing a sterling recommendation for a product of little value or usefulness itself. Regardless of how many other people are recommending it, you shouldn't promote it if you haven't had firsthand experience yourself.

Be sure to offer only relevant, or "like" products and services. If you have a website that's about pet products, don't sell car detailing products on the same website. It doesn't make sense. These products don't complement each other at all. You're just going to come off as a fly-by-night and are highly unlikely to sell both products to the same customer.

A good example of selling complementary products would be, if you sell pet products and pet training information and advice on the same site. These products complement each other and would clearly entice the same consumer. In other words, once you get a visitor to your site who might buy some pet products from you, then it would be easy to interest that person in a book or video series on dog training as this would increase your chances of selling them more than one item. Make sure have an array of products that go together.

I agree that you should invest in multiple streams of income, but they must all be related on the same subject if they're going to offered on the same site. Build and maintain an opt-in email list. Really, I can't stress this point enough. A sturdy opt-in list is wildly important and directly connected to the longevity of your online success.

Any Internet Marketer experiencing online success will tell you what their list is their most valuable asset, not their products, their location or any other tangible item. A good list, honesty and impeccable customer relations reign supreme in the online business arena. Bottom line about the opt-in list is that if you don't have a solid email list, you don't have an Internet business. There's an old saying in the Internet Marketing world, "Offer an affiliate product... and you earn money once. But if you Offer a subscription to your opt-in email list, you make money over and over again."

Build your brand. In today's marketplace you have to use your opt-in email list to build a relationship with your subscribers. When they first subscribe, they probably won't have a clue about who you are or what you're about. So you're going to have to tell them about yourself. Talk to them about who you are and express your opinions. On your first few initial contacts don't try to sell them anything. Tell them about yourself, your experiences, etc. Let your customers get to know you. Online, you have to give people a reason to know, like and trust you before they'll feel comfortable doing business with you. And you don't have to be the best writer on the planet. You also don't have to be just like your mentor. Just write some things that are exclusively knowledgeable about and include your ideals within you in your emails or newsletter.

You're not going to please everybody. I guarantee some of them will get mad and ask to be removed from your list for one reason or another. That's the nature of the beast. Deal with it. Chances are these types of people are high maintenance and difficult to please anyway. Removing themselves from my list is really a godsend. Therefore, I don't end up wasting time trying to sell to them. I just move on to the people who are genuinely interested in my offerings and therefore, I have a greater chance of making money off them.

Take the time to write your own honest endorsements and reviews. Every affiliate program on the internet has endorsement ads, classified ads and solo available. It's o.k. to use them sometimes, but they should always be used sparingly and never become your only marketing modes. On top of every ad you should have your own HONEST opinion of you product. Don't be afraid to tell your customers in your own words why they should buy you product. The same thing goes for online newsletters or press releases. Be unique. You can use content and articles from other people to generate ideas, but every single email you ever send out MUST written uniquely by you and in your own words. This is what will separate you from the rest of the pack. You don't have to be professional writer. You just have to have strong original opinions and be willing to stick your neck out when giving them.

Offer "Private" or "VIP" specials. I don't recommend you give your products away. But you should be making special offers just for those people on your list. Why should they buy a product from you instead of any one of thousand other affiliates offering it? Because you're better than all the rest! You offer genuine, reachable personal service. You're honest. You're an authority in your filed and you give your customers something extra they can't get from other affiliates!

Offer an additional discount or free report to members of your list. Your bonus could also be an eBook, an email consultation or a phone consultation. Give members of your list something "extra special" with some of your offers and watch your affiliate income checks soar. I'm sure it goes without saying, but be sure whatever items you give for free are directly related to your products.

Don't be afraid to ask for the sale. With competition nowadays, you have to ask for the sale. Ultimately, if you don't ask you'll never get it. And in the grand scheme of things, the worst they can say is "no." If they do, you're really no worse off than you are right now. But if you take the time to ask and they say "yes," sweet serendipity! You've closed a sale! Here's why this is so important. You can't write a load of content hoping someone will click on your link somewhere and then "magically" decide to buy your product. You have to tell your potential customers why they want and need your products[s].

This is a good place to start if you're going to delve into selling affiliate products. Take the information I've provided you here and keep it in the back of your mind while building your online business. In no time at all, you'll be able to start measuring your successes from one day to the next - one deposit to the next!

Business Building: Securing that Potential Client - Sample Thank You Letter

Great! You have managed to secure a meeting with that big potential client you have wanted to meet. You set the time and have your presentation down just right. Finally the big day comes and everything goes well at your meeting. What now? Just sit back and wait for that potential client to call?

Someone that could have made lots of money once said, "The fortune is in the follow up." So get out there and follow up!!!

The very first thing that you should do will be to send them a thank you letter. Go the extra step and make it more personal by sending the prospective client a greeting card with the thank you letter hand written inside. Here is a sample thank you letter you could send after meeting a prospective client.

Business Building: Securing that Potential Client - Sample Thank You Letter

************

John,

It was wonderful having the opportunity to meet you and get to know you a little better. I loved getting the chance to hear about your trip to Europe. As I said, it is a place I'd like to go in the near future. It sounds like I could really get some tips from you on where to go while I'm there.

John, I can see how much value you bring to your company and how much you would like to see it succeed. I'd like to thank you for the chance to show you and your company what we can do for you to help you in your goals.

If there are any additional questions I can answer for you, don't hesitate to call.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with you on this project.

Jane Doe

************

As you can see, a thank you letter after a meeting with a prospective client does not need to be fancy but it should be personal where appropriate. Make an effort to build that relationship past just business so that the prospective client can see you really care about their interests.

Sometimes however, a more formal relationship is required. Here is a sample thank you letter after meeting with a prospective client that may be a bit more formal.

************

Mr. Doe,

It was wonderful meeting you today and learning more about ACME, Inc. I would like to thank you for giving WIDGETS Corp the opportunity to earn your business. I can see that this project is important to your company and I want to assure you that WIDGETS Corp will do everything that we can to provide you with the best possible service.

If you have any remaining questions that we can answer, please feel free to contact me.

Jane Doe

************

Whether your communication is formal or informal, a thank you letter receives more response when sent in the form of a greeting card. It has more impact and is more memorable, both keys to a good presentation.

After sending the thank you letter, don't forget to follow up in a few days to a week with a phone call. Often times, prospective clients get busy and need that nudge to get going on a project. If your competitor calls before you do, who is more likely to get the business?

What is Business to Business Marketing?

It has been common to hear the media and a lot of people in the corporate world talk about business to business marketing. If you listen to the American corporate World, it will not pass you to hear a lot of companies strategizing on how they will win not only the consumers but also the other businesses. It will be prudent that as you think of how you can win an individual consumer, you should also focus on targeting the big giants in the business world as you draw strategic plans towards the success of your business.

Business to business marketing is the marketing of goods and services to other businesses.

A lot of companies are providing their services to the other companies in their lines of production. Companies will therefore need each other in business. Banking institutions will keep money for the manufacturers or the same banks will also need printed papers or other services from the said manufacturers. That is just one example of business to business service. A good bank will try to strategize on how to win other businesses to open current or savings accounts with them. That is plainly a good example of business to business marketing.

What is Business to Business Marketing?

Other good example of business to business marketing is where companies approaching others to buy raw materials for their processing functions. There are so many companies that are in the business of looking for companies to supply raw materials to them .The companies buying the raw materials may also need to do business to business marketing to win the other. There will be thus a kind of mutual relationship between the two companies.

If you are creating a business that at one point you will be required to do business to business marketing, it may mean that you will be supposed to demonstrate to the company that you will be marketing to why your products and services are better than those offered by the others that are offering to them.

Before you do business to business marketing, you should be well aware that the standards of the products and services that you are offering are supposed to be of higher standards than when you are selling to a consumer.
As opposed to business to consumer marketing, under the business to business marketing, you will be focusing on a more targeted market. You will not ignore the consumer in the picture because if the businesses you are targeting is not doing well in as far as the product that it is selling to the consumer is concerned, it will not buy the products that you will be selling much.

For business to business marketing, you must be able to focus on the following to have the best of the market:

Quality of the goods
You will have to provide goods and services that are of the highest quality to be able to win the attention of the other businesses.

Customer support
You must know how to win and maintain a customer, in this case being the fellow business, with excellent customer support.
